The next opportunity is focused on helping people lose weight and, more importantly, educating them on how to change their lifestyle in order to enjoy long-term wellness. The name of the company that I’d like to tell you about is Medi-Weightloss®. Medi-Weightloss® started in 2005 when the CEO & Founder, Ed Kaloust finally realized that it was time lose weight and get healthy. Ed went to an OB/GYN who operated a secondary weight loss practice. Ed was astounded at the number of overweight patients sitting in the lobby. He thought, sure there are plenty of the garden variety non-medically supervised weight loss programs (i.e., Jenny Craig and Nutri-System), which revolve around mean plans, and meal replacements and, yo-yo dieting. There was nothing with the high level of accountability and the extraordinarily high level of care that you get with a medical practitioner. The medically supervised weight loss industry was and is a very fragmented industry with physicians trea ting weight loss as an ancillary business, and they lack the proven protocol, infrastructure, marketing strategies, and business acumen to produce significant results; and just as important to take a brand to critical mass. Medi-Weightloss® changed all of that when they began franchising in 2008.
